Details of Guatapé & El Peñol Day Excursions

Upon gathering at the specified meeting location in Medellín, our journey will commence as we leave the urban landscape behind and head towards eastern Colombia. Our initial stop will be the town of Marinilla, where we will indulge in a traditional breakfast.

We will then proceed to the renowned El Peñol de Guatapé. This majestic rock formation towers at 721 ft (220 m), providing a remarkable vantage point over the surroundings. For those willing to ascend its steps, an extraordinary sight awaits: Guatapé stretching out beneath you! You will have time to appreciate this exceptional scenery.

Next, we'll arrive at the enchanting town of Guatapé. Here, we will meander along the Malecón and immerse ourselves in the tales depicted on the Plaza de los Zócalos reliefs. The lively colors of the facades and the genuine charm of the streets are sure to captivate you.

To engage with the essence of rural life, we will tour the Alto del Chocho farm. From this serene lookout point, you will enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of the reservoir and the Andes foothills. In addition to experiencing the pastoral lifestyle, you will encounter friendly llamas! Afterward, we will savor a traditional lunch in the region.

We will wrap up our journey by heading back, concluding the tour approximately 10 to 11 hours after departure, returning to the starting point.

Options for the Day Trip: Including or Excluding a Guatapé Boat Ride

When booking, you have the flexibility to customize your experience by selecting from the following two options:

Day trip without a boat ride: this includes the full itinerary outlined previously.
Day trip with a boat ride on the dam: after lunch, we will embark on a boat to glide across the Guatapé dam. During this ride, we will pass by the remnants of Hacienda La Manuela, the former estate of Pablo Escobar, while uncovering the area's recent history.

On the day of the activity, we'll meet at the specified time in El Poblado Park in Medellín, next to the entrance to San José Church (Cra. 43A #9-30, El Poblado, Medellín). Please arrive at least 10 minutes early. We'll wait for a maximum of 10 minutes at this meeting point.

Important Info

If you're traveling with other people on the same tour, please inform the tour coordinator. Otherwise, you might have to travel separately.
Please note that the climbing fee to the Piedra del Peñol is not included (35000COP per person, to be paid in cash).
Please note that, instead of visiting the replica of the Old Rock, we'll be visiting the Alto del Chocho viewpoint.
