Hike to the Chimborazo Volcano Ice Mine

Our excursion begins at 7 am, when we will collect you from your accommodation in Riobamba and set off towards the village named Cuatro Esquinas. Situated at an impressive elevation of 14,271 feet (4,350 meters), this location will serve as the starting point for our trek to the ice mine nestled within the Chimborazo Volcano.

As we navigate the 6-mile (10-kilometer) path, you'll be introduced to the unique flora characteristic of this Ecuadorian region and may spot llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas roaming the picturesque Andean valleys. Throughout the hike, we will share fascinating insights about these animals, including the continuous growth of vicuñas' incisors...

Upon reaching the Chimborazo ice mine, you'll find yourself in a stunning and historically significant site, which has offered employment to local ice harvesters for generations. Here, these individuals extracted ice blocks that were later sold within the region.

During our stop, a picnic lunch awaits, featuring a sandwich, a piece of fruit, and juice to enjoy. After this refreshing break, we will commence our journey back, ensuring you arrive at your hotel in Riobamba by 4:30 pm.
