Lake Chungará Tour

Describing the magnificence of Lauca National Park in just a few words is challenging. This excursion offers you the chance to immerse yourself in the stunning vistas of Lake Chungará, nestled within a diverse ecosystem that is home to llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and various highland fauna.

Expedition to Lake Chungará

Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Arica between 7:00 and 8:00 am, setting the stage for a journey into the Andean highlands of northern Chile as we explore Lauca National Park, featuring the renowned Lake Chungará.

The first stop will be the quaint town of Poconchile, where we will visit the picturesque church of San Jerónimo, built in 1605. Following this, we'll continue our journey to Chungará, navigating through the stunning Los Cardones ravine, passing by the charming village of Malku, and stopping at the Putre viewpoint, where breathtaking panoramic views of Lauca National Park await.

We will then press on to the Chucuyo viewpoint, the final lookout before we reach Lake Chungará. This remarkable Andean lake, situated at an altitude of 4500 meters (14,763 feet), boasts an ecosystem teeming with biodiversity. A leisurely walk around the lake will allow for the observation of several native species including alpacas, guanacos, vicuñas, llamas, and other Andean wildlife.

Lake Chungará is also a haven for various altiplano birds, such as Chilean flamingos, Neotropic cormorants, South American ostriches, as well as giant taguas (coots) and condors, among other species. After a rewarding time observing these endemic birds, we will proceed to a local restaurant to indulge in a satisfying three-course meal featuring local delicacies.

Post-lunch, we will return you to your hotel in Arica, with an estimated arrival around 7:00 pm.
