Bergen, founded in 1070 by King Olaf III Haraldsson, was originally known as Bjørgvin, meaning "the green meadow among the mountains". It served as Norway's capital during the 12th and 13th centuries. This city was a key trade hub for many years, known primarily for its exports of fish and fur. Today, it stands as Norway's second-largest city despite recurring historic fires, including significant ones in 1706 and 1916.

With a vibrant economy largely driven by fishing and shipbuilding, Bergen features remarkably preserved medieval architecture, including the notable Bergen Cathedral from the 12th century.

As we stroll through the streets of Bergen, we'll visit key cultural landmarks such as The Bergen Public Library, The Bergen Railway Station, and the picturesque Bryggen, a historic wharf recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. We’ll also explore The Bryggen Hanseatic Museum. Interestingly, in 1350, the Hanseatic League, a confederation of merchant guilds, established an office in Bergen.
