Day Trip Overview

If you find yourself in Bilbao and have explored its attractions, why not explore the wine-producing areas of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa? At the arranged time, we will gather in the heart of the city, near the Guggenheim Museum, to commence our journey to two historic wineries situated in Laguardia and Haro. Let’s begin!

Your first destination will be Haro, regarded as the wine hub of Rioja. Here, we will visit the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, where you’ll learn about the craftsmanship and secrets behind this celebrated drink. Highlights of the visit include the barrel room, crafted by the renowned architect Gustave Eiffel, as well as the underground cellars. Before leaving, you’ll be invited to savor a delightful wine tasting.

Subsequently, we’ll delve into Haro's historic old town, recognized as an Asset of Cultural Interest since 1975. We will pass notable landmarks such as the Bendaña Palace, the palace of the Counts of Haro, the town hall, and Plaza de la Paz Square.

Our next stop will be the medieval village of Laguardia. Here, we will wander through the quaint cobblestone streets of the capital of Rioja Alavesa and visit a traditional winery. You will gain insights into the wine-making process from a fresh perspective, along with the chance to sample some of their exquisite productions.

Enjoy some leisure time in Laguardia to relish a meal at one of the charming local restaurants. After satisfying our appetites, we will set off back to Bilbao, but not before stopping at Elciego to admire the remarkable Marqués de Riscal Winery, a hallmark of Rioja Alavesa.

This enriching tour will conclude as we return to our original meeting point after approximately 8 hours together.
