On the scheduled day, we will gather at the Advanced Gate in Birgu at the designated time. This marks the starting point of our engaging journey through the Pearl of the Three Cities. Are you ready to embark on this adventure?

This tour will take you through charming squares and uncover hidden treasures, allowing you to connect with the true essence of Birgu. Your knowledgeable local guide will shed light on the rich history and Baroque architecture that define this ancient city.

Our journey begins at the Advanced Gate and the Gate of Provence, two historic entrances framed by the old city walls. Here, we will delve into Birgu's role during the Great Siege of Malta in 1565, a critical chapter in the island's saga. It was during this period that Ottoman forces relentlessly besieged the city to expand their influence in the Mediterranean. Nevertheless, the bravery of the Knights of St. John, supported by local defenders, thwarted these aggressive advances. Important fortifications, such as Fort St. Angelo, proved vital during this time.

Next, we'll take a moment to admire the Bastions of St. John and St. James as well as the Armoury of the Knights of St. John. These sites will reveal stories of Malta during the Second World War when Birgu endured severe aerial and naval bombardments. As a significant Mediterranean stronghold, the city was repeatedly targeted by Axis forces aiming to disrupt Allied supply lines.
