Santo Domingo Day Trip
Your adventure begins between 9 am and 10 am with a convenient pick-up from your hotel in Boca Chica as we embark on the journey to the capital.
Our first destination is the Three Eyes National Park, known for its stunning freshwater lake and cave formations. Following this, we'll drive past the Columbus Lighthouse, reputed to be the resting place of Christopher Columbus.
After a brief pause to admire the neoclassical facade of the National Palace, we will enjoy a traditional buffet lunch at a local restaurant, featuring a variety of Dominican specialties, including rice, bean stews, and meats.
With our appetites satisfied, we will embark on a walking tour of the captivating colonial area of Santo Domingo. Here, we will visit the Basilica Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, the first cathedral established in the Americas. We will also explore the scenic Plaza de España, taking in breathtaking views of the Ozama River alongside the famous Alcázar de Colón, where we'll tour its magnificent interior.
The exploration continues down the Via de Las Damas, the city's first street, which features the esteemed National Pantheon, a resting place for some of the nation’s most prominent historical figures. We will also tour this remarkable monument. Our journey will then take us to view the Jesuit Church, a historical site from the early 18th century.
As we wander through the vibrant streets of the colonial district, you'll encounter art displays, charming cafes, and artisan shops, including a visit to the Larimar and Amber shop-workshop. Here, we will discover the significance of these semi-precious stones in Dominican culture. To conclude our day, we will head to the boardwalk, where you can soak in the stunning views of the Caribbean Sea.
Finally, we will begin our return trip to Boca Chica, with an anticipated arrival at your hotel around 5 pm.
