Embark on a hike to Hito Copahue, where we will arrive at the peak of the natural divide between Argentina and Chile. From this vantage point, enjoy stunning views of the Andean Valley and the majestic Copahue Volcano.

Hike Overview

Are you ready to experience both Argentina and Chile simultaneously? Our adventure begins with your pickup from your accommodation in Caviahue, leading us to Copahue, the starting point of our trail to Hito Copahue.

Upon arrival, we'll prepare at the thermal resort in Copahue before setting off on our journey through striking arid terrains near the Copahue Volcano. This 6-kilometer (3.7-mile) trek will take us past fossils of lava rocks that originated from the volcano's crater. As we trek, we’ll explain the fascinating geological processes that have formed this remarkable landscape.

As we progress, the path meanders through the scattered bushes of the semi-desert terrain typical of this area. We may encounter streams fed by melting snow, and, if fortune smiles upon us, cross some snowy patches along the trail.

Before long, we will arrive at our goal: the boundary marker X-5, more commonly referred to as Hito Copahue. This spot marks the natural border between Argentina and Chile, embraced by snow-capped mountains and expansive arid valleys. You will have the chance to stand with one foot in Argentina and the other in Chile! To commemorate our accomplishment, we’ll enjoy a warm beverage before we make our way back.

During our descent, we will stop at Callos Lagoon within the Copahue hot springs to relax our feet in the naturally warm waters derived from volcanic activity. It’s a well-deserved treat!

After a complete duration of 5 hours, we will conclude our adventure and return to your hotel in Caviahue.
