Trekking Overview

Day 1: Chefchaouen – Azilane

We will gather at the appointed time at Hotel Madrid in Chefchaouen, ready to leave behind the enchanting "Blue City" as we embark on our first trekking day. The hiking route is expected to take about seven hours—there will be breaks to catch your breath and enjoy the surroundings!

The initial leg of our journey, approximately three hours long, will lead us through the Talassemtane National Park. Here, we’ll take a pause in this esteemed Biosphere Reserve, allowing you to enjoy the picnic you’ve brought while soaking in the stunning vistas. After our break, we’ll resume our trek toward our evening destination. This second segment of four hours will guide us through the quaint village of Afeska.

The day will conclude in Azilane, where we can relish a hearty dinner before unwinding at our mountain lodge for the night.

Day 2: Azilane – Akchour – Chefchaouen

After enjoying a nutritious breakfast at the lodge in Azilane, we will embark on today’s five-hour trek. The effort will lead us to the extraordinary God’s Bridge: a magnificent natural rock arch soaring above us in the Talassemtane National Park.

Nearby, you’ll find the stunning Akchour Waterfalls—natural pools and cascades with brilliant emerald waters that will surely enchant you. The area is rich in wildlife and diverse flora, which we will discover throughout our trek.

After taking advantage of this scenic spot with a picnic lunch, our trekking will conclude around 5:15 pm at the village of Akchour. From that point, a taxi ride back to Chefchaouen will be necessary, which typically lasts 45 minutes and costs around 18 US Dollars (22 Euros) for groups of up to four individuals.

4-Day Trekking Option

For those choosing this extended option, the first day will follow the same itinerary as previously outlined.

On the second day, our journey will continue with a hike from Azilane to Taourarte. After a fulfilling breakfast at the rural hostel, prepare for a comprehensive 8-hour trek. We’ll traverse a stunning part of the Rif mountain range, where Taourarte's scenery showcases characteristic ocher and green hues.

Following a brief stop for your picnic, we will reach a rural lodge in Taourarte, where we will enjoy dinner and rest for the night at a welcoming mountain inn.

The third day comprises a hike from Taourarte to Akchour. We’ll start early, with breakfast at the lodge coinciding with the dawn’s awakening. This day involves an 8-hour trek, divided into three segments of roughly 2.5 hours each. We’ll take a break for lunch amid nature’s beauty. Keep an eye out for Rif monkeys—if we tread quietly, we might even get close enough to observe them unobtrusively!

Brace yourselves for the highlight of the day: a visit to the renowned Akchour waterfalls, the ideal setting for a refreshing swim post-hike! We will then proceed to a mountain lodge in Akchour, where a delicious and comforting dinner awaits before we retire for the night.

Lastly, on the fourth day, we will trek from Akchour to Chefchaouen. Following a hearty breakfast just after sunrise, we will commence the final leg of our journey: a 6-hour trek segmented into two parts of three hours each. The first segment will showcase stunning views around the "Puente de Dios" (Bridge of God), a natural footbridge that spans a magnificent canyon.

After enjoying a picnic break, we’ll embark on the second leg of our journey back to Chefchaouen. To culminate our adventure, we’ll partake in a guided tour of this captivating city, delving into its rich heritage. During the exploration, we’ll stroll through the iconic areas of the old town, including the Spanish Quarter and the Medina.

We will conclude our tour of Chefchaouen at the designated meeting point at 6 pm.

Accommodation and Meals

This trek encompasses 3 nights of accommodation in mountain lodges:

• Azilane (1st night): Gîte d'étape Azilane or a comparable alternative
• Taourarte (2nd night): Gîte Taourarte or a similar establishment
• Akchour (3rd night): Gîte d'étape Zaouia d'Akchour or an equivalent

Your stay in these three lodgings includes both dinner and breakfast.

It is important to note that 3 lunches during this trek are not included. We advise bringing your own picnic meals for these occasions.
