Sicán National Museum + Túcume Pyramids Day Trip

Embark on a day trip to explore the Sicán National Museum and the Túcume Pyramids, where you can witness the huacas, representing some of the most significant pre-Hispanic structures along Peru's northern coast. This experience is essential for those interested in history!

Tour Description

At the scheduled departure time, we will meet at your accommodation in Chiclayo before proceeding northwards to Ferreñafe. Our first stop will be the Sicán National Museum.

Within the museum, we will explore the discoveries from the El Loro huaca, which resides in the Bosque de Pómac Historic Sanctuary. This remarkable location yielded significant artifacts from the Sicán culture. Among the exhibits are items unearthed from a burial site, including precious gold, silver, and tumbaga—an esteemed alloy of gold and copper in pre-Hispanic America.

Once we have toured the Sicán Museum, we’ll depart Ferreñafe and proceed northward to Túcume. Recognized as the Valley of the Pyramids, this historical area served as the capital of the Lambayeque kingdom in ancient times.

Amid the arid landscape, you will encounter 26 adobe pyramids (huacas), which once served as residential structures for the elite and later transformed into a hub of political and administrative authority for the Chimu and Inca civilizations.

A visit to the Túcume Site Museum will allow us to appreciate the architecture reminiscent of 16th-century chapels. Inside, we’ll discover authentic archaeological artifacts from the Lambayeque, Chimu, and Inca civilizations while also learning about Naylamp, the founder of the Lambayeque culture.

During our exploration of Túcume, we will visit several prominent pyramids such as Huaca las Estacas, Huaca el Mirador, and Huaca Larga. Additionally, we’ll stop by Huaca Las Balsas, a significant piece of pre-Hispanic architecture within the Túcume archaeological complex.

After concluding our time at the site, we will head to the town of Lambayeque, where you’ll have an hour to enjoy lunch. Following this break, we will return to Chiclayo, with an estimated arrival at your hotel about 6.5 hours from the initial pickup.
