On this day trip to Recife from Porto de Galinhas, we will journey through the colonial history of Pernambuco's capital. The itinerary includes visits to historic churches, a former prison, and the renowned Ricardo Brennand Institute.

Day Trip Details

The trip begins with a pickup from your hotel in Porto de Galinhas, followed by a journey to Recife, the capital of Pernambuco. Often referred to as the Brazilian Venice, Recife showcases an intricate network of canals and bridges alongside a rich history that spans back to the 16th century.

We will kick off our exploration by traversing both the modern and historical districts of the city, passing by the iconic Cais José Estelita and the formidable Five Points Fort, a Dutch-built fortress constructed in 1630, which encapsulates many stories from the colonial period.

Next, we will visit Republic Square, where we will admire the architectural beauty of the Palace of Justice, the Palace of the Fields of the Princesses, and the grand Santa Isabel Theater. Close by, we will explore the Golden Chapel, a stunning example of Brazilian Baroque-Rococo style, noted for its lavish gold leaf embellishments.

The tour continues at the House of Culture, a former prison now converted into a center for handicrafts. Here, we will walk through galleries that were once prison cells, now filled with regional crafts like leather goods, lace, and northeastern Brazilian ceramics. Additionally, we will see the historic Central Station building from 1888, which houses the country's inaugural railway museum.

Following a scenic drive through the neighborhoods of Casa Forte and Poço da Panela, we will reach the Ricardo Brennand Institute. This remarkable medieval-style complex is frequently hailed as one of the best museums in South America.

Inside the institute, we will have the chance to explore its expansive gardens and impressive collection, which features one of the largest armories in the world, along with English furniture, French tapestries, and the largest private collection of works by Frans Post.

Before our return, there will be some free time for lunch. We will then embark on the journey back to your hotel, completing approximately 7 hours of exploration.
