Marine Birdwatching Expedition in the Azores

Our adventure begins promptly at 8 am, meeting at the port in Vila Franca do Campo. Situated on the southern shores of São Miguel Island, we’ll kick off the experience with a brief overview of the avian species found in the Azores. This archipelago, set in the Atlantic, boasts an impressive variety of birds.

Following our introduction to the prominent bird species and their migratory patterns, we will embark on a zodiac tour along the coastline of São Miguel. Navigating along the island’s southern shores, we will explore regions rich in avian colonies. Accompanied by a knowledgeable naturalist guide, we will gain insights into distinguishing the unique endemic birds of the Azores.

As we sail alongside São Miguel, expect to encounter sandpipers, shearwaters, egrets, and various native species like buzzards. We provide top-quality binoculars, allowing you to observe these fascinating birds in detail from the comfort of the boat.

Our zodiac journey will take us towards the islet of Vila Franca do Campo, where you will have the chance to spot additional Azorean birds, including wagtails. You’ll also learn to identify these small birds, known for their seasonal feather color changes.

We will conclude our excursion and return to the departure point by 11 am.
