Day Trip to Chilecito

Begin an exhilarating adventure from Villa Union to Chilecito, a prominent mining town in La Rioja, situated in northwestern Argentina. Prepare to be mesmerized by the stunning scenery that this area has to offer!

Description

Your journey will commence with a pickup from your hotel in Villa Union at the appointed time. We will then head east.

Our path will follow National Route 40, a renowned highway that stretches across the expansive western part of Argentina in a north-south direction. As we travel this celebrated road, we will pause at the viewpoints along the Cuesta de Miranda. This section of RN-40 is noted for its twisting roads that nimbly wind through the stunning mountains of La Rioja.

Once we have absorbed the incredible views from the Cuesta de Miranda, standing at a height of 2,400 meters (7,875 feet), we will proceed toward Chilecito. Our exploration of this vibrant town will include a visit to Cable Car Station 2, an impressive feat of engineering established in 1904, which was crucial in the transport of valuable minerals from the La Mexicana mine into the city.

While in Chilecito, we will also stop by Cristo del Portezuelo, a magnificent statue reaching 16 meters (52 feet) in height. Following this meaningful visit, you will have time for a leisurely lunch. Additionally, those who wish can visit a nearby winery.

We will conclude our day by reconvening in the center of Chilecito before returning to your Villa Union hotel. Anticipate arriving back approximately 8 hours after we set off.
