On this hiking route, you'll embark on an uphill hike to the Mayan Face, where you'll see a magical sunrise over Lake Atitlán and its three volcanoes. Join us!

Hike Details

If you want to admire one of the best sunrises over Lake Atitlán, we'll pick you up at your hotel in the early morning to begin your adventure. Before sunrise, we'll start a 1.5-hour journey to Santa Clara La Laguna.

Here, we will find the start of the trail that leads to the legendary Rostro Maya or Mayan Face, also known as "Indian Nose".

As darkness surrounds us, we will tighten our shoes to begin an uphill hiking route of 45 minutes. Flashlights will illuminate our path, with only the sound of our steps crunching on dry leaves accompanying us. The excitement will grow as we make our way higher.

As we approach the viewpoint of Rostro Maya, the scenic views will begin to unfold before our eyes. Get ready to witness the unforgettable moment when the sun rises behind the Tolimán, Atitlán, and San Pedro volcanoes. You'll see Lake Atitlán at its calmest, resembling a mirror of orange and pink hues at sunrise.

Watch as the light gradually reaches the towns along the shores of the lake. After the hike, this well-deserved sight will be rejuvenating! With a hot drink in your hands, you'll enjoy this moment and take beautiful pictures to remember it by. Afterwards, we'll begin our descent back down in daylight to the starting point.

Finally, we will return to Panajachel, where you will be dropped off at your hotel after a total of 5 to 6 hours. What a way to start the day!

HOW IT WORKS?

You will experience a morning hike to witness a stunning sunrise over Lake Atitlán. The adventure begins early with hotel pickup, followed by transport to the trailhead. The hike is approximately 1.5 hours long, including a challenging 45-minute uphill trek to reach the viewpoint.
