Immerse yourself in the breathtaking wilderness of Patagonia as you embark on an unforgettable hiking adventure across the stunning Perito Moreno Glacier.

Hiking Overview

We'll convene at the specified time at Bajo Las Sombras port to board a ferry that will transfer us across Lake Rico. After approximately 20 minutes of navigation, we will arrive at the opposing shore, right in front of the southern face of the Perito Moreno Glacier.

After disembarking, our mountain guides will greet us and direct us to a nearby shelter. Here, we will embark on a leisurely stroll along the lakeshore covering roughly 1 km. During this time, we’ll engage in an insightful discussion about glaciology, focusing on the unique characteristics of the Perito Moreno Glacier!

Upon reaching the glacier’s edge, the guides will organize participants into smaller groups, capping at 20 individuals. A brief safety briefing will precede our preparation for the hike, which includes fitting crampons. Our exciting 1.5-hour journey will allow us to witness an array of fascinating glacial structures including crevasses, meltwater streams, seracs, and lagoons. After our exploration on the ice, we will retrace our steps back to the refuge via a footbridge that meanders through the lush Andean Patagonian forest.

As a conclusion to our adventure, you can opt for a boat ride back to the port, followed by an overland excursion to the footbridges for stunning viewpoints of the glacier from various perspectives.

Timing of the Activity

Upon confirming your reservation, our team will reach out to establish the precise start time, which will vary based on group size and prevailing weather conditions. Starting times may be set for 7:30, 8, 8:30, 9, 9:30, 10 or 11 am.

Meeting Location

Depending on your reservation choice, we can either collect you from your accommodation in El Calafate or arrange to meet directly at Bajo Las Sombras port.

Crucial Information

To finalize your booking, you are required to provide a photograph of your passport.

This activity is not recommended for individuals over 65 years of age.

Pickup Point

In case you have booked the option with transfer, please note that the total duration is about 10 hours. The provider will contact you to confirm the pick-up time at your hotel in El Calafate. We can also pick you up at the following address: Calle 7 de Diciembre, 31 (Local 3), a few metres from the Banco de la Nación Argentina. This is an exceptional case, as only clients staying in private or rented houses are picked up at this point.

If your booking is for the option without transport, the duration of the tour will be 3.5 hours and the meeting point will be the Puerto Bajo Las Sombras, inside the Glaciers National Park. Please be there at least 20 minutes before the start of the activity.

Activity Schedule

The local provider will contact you to confirm the start time of the activity. The start can be at 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 9:30, 10:00 or 11:00.

Admission Fee Not Included

You can buy the admission ticket to Los Glaciares National Park on this link or you can buy it the same day of the tour at the ticket office. If you buy the ticket there, please bar in mind that you'll have to pay the entrance fee in cash in the local currency.

If you visit the National Park on a second day you can buy the pass with 50% discount for the second day.

Additional Info

The minimum age to enjoy the Perito Moreno trekking route is 10 years old and the maximum age is 65 years old.
Due to the physical demands, although moderate, the activity is not recommended for pregnant women, people with heart problems or people with joint injuries.
This tour should not be booked on the same day as the arrival or departure flight.
You should bring comfortable and warm clothes, waterproof jacket and trousers, hat, gloves, if possible trekking boots or, failing that, sport shoes with laces, sunglasses, sunscreen, food and drink.
In order to confirm the booking, you must send a photo of your passport. The local team reserves the right to request a physical passport on the day of the tour.
