Overview of the 2-Day Journey

Day 1: Departure from Fez to Merzouga

Begin your adventure by leaving Fez early in the morning, heading towards the quaint village of Merzouga. Traverse the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains, home to stunning cedar forests inhabited by Barbary Apes. This mountainous region stretches 350 kilometers from Morocco's southeast to its northeast.

Along the way, take in the sights of Ifrane, perched at an elevation of 5,460 meters. This town, often referred to as Morocco’s “Little Switzerland”, is noted for its unique architecture and serves as one of the country's premier ski destinations. Also on your route is Azrou, a picturesque town in the heart of the Atlas range.

Continue your journey through the Ziz Valley and its striking gorges, passing charming villages like Midelt and Erfoud. From Erfoud, a dirt road leads you directly to Merzouga.

As the sun sets, mount a camel and take in the breathtaking views of the golden dunes, gently swaying with the motion of the camel. Your destination is a traditional desert camp, where a delightful Moroccan meal awaits you, followed by a restful night in a cozy Amazigh tent beneath a starlit sky.

Day 2: Return Journey from Merzouga to Fez

Awaken before dawn to catch a spectacular sunrise from the top of a dune. Then, remount your camel for the return to the village of Merzouga, where a hearty breakfast and a refreshing shower (depending on the camp type, breakfast and shower may occur before your camel ride) await you.

On your return trip to Fez, there will be a stop at Tafilalt and Rissani, the latter with a rich history as the place where the Alawite dynasty originated. In the Azrou forests, take a moment to observe the wild monkeys that inhabit this area.

Your tour concludes in Fez by the late evening. Please note that although it is uncommon, the driver may occasionally have limited English skills during the journey back.

Accommodation Options in the Desert Camps

We offer a selection of two distinct camps offering double, triple, or family configurations. The standard tents can accommodate up to four individuals and feature a private bathroom. The superior haimas can host up to five guests and also include private bathrooms. It's important to note that the standard and superior camps are completely distinct, with variations in culinary offerings and interior design of the haimas.

Keep in mind that during the high season, such as Easter or Christmas, certain standard camps may provide shared bathroom facilities.

An individual supplement will apply for single reservations, and there is an additional charge of 30 EUR per haima for air-conditioning in luxury camps.

If you're staying in the medina of Fez, please meet your guide at the Blue Gate of Fez (Bab Bou Jeloud).

We'll collect you from your hotel for free if you're staying outside the Old Town. Please write the name of your hotel and the address when you book the activity. If you haven't, please get in touch with the local provider directly.

Trip Accommodation

The standard category haimas can accommodate up to 4 people and have a private bathroom. The haimas in the superior category can accommodate up to 5 people and also have private bathrooms. The standard and superior camps are completely separate; there are differences in the food and the interior decoration of the haimas.

However, please note that during the high season, such as Easter or Christmas, there may be camps with shared bathrooms in the standard category.

An individual supplement will be applied if a reservation is made for one person. Please also note that air-conditioning in the luxury camps costs an additional 30EUR per haima.
