Tour Options

During the booking process, you can choose between two options. Both include pickup at your hotel in Montevideo and drop-off and an English-speaking guide.

Please read the following details of each tour option:

Tour & Classic Tasting (3 Hours) 

Once we arrive at the Varela Zarranz Winery, in the region of Canelones, we'll be greeted by an expert enologist, who will take us to the vineyards. Here, we'll begin to learn about the grape cultivation and care techniques that have been passed down in this family winery for over 90 years. You'll witness the stages in the production process of the five lines of Varela Zarranz wines. Plus, as we head to the cellar and production plant, you'll see how the winery has modernized thanks to the technology adopted in recent years.

After the visit, we'll reach the area where we'll participate in a tasting of 4 wines. You'll see the tables perfectly prepared with glasses for each wine, water, and a charcuterie board with cured hams and baked bread. We'll start with the youngest and softest wines, learning the art of pouring wine into glasses and observing its body. Then, we'll engage our sense of smell, recognizing primary and secondary aromas and how they play a crucial role in identifying a good wine. You'll become an expert!

The 4 wines of the tasting will be: Petit Grain Muscat, Fusión Roble, Tannat Reserva, and María Zarranz Extra Brut. 

Operating days: this option operates from Wednesday to Sunday. Pickup at Montevideo will take place at 9:30 am (for the 11 am tour).

Tour & Premium Tasting (3 Hours)

With this option, we'll follow the same itinerary as the previously described option, but also enjoy a tasting of 4 Premium wines. The wines in the tasting are: Petit Grain Muscat, Fusión Roble, Tannat Open Cellar, and Varela Zarranz Brut Nature.

The tasting will be accompanied by a picada de campo, a rural selection of empanadas and desserts.

Operating days: this option operates from Wednesday to Sunday. Pickup at Montevideo will take place at 9:30 am (for the 11 am tour).

Tour & Lunch (4 Hours)

In this option, we'll follow the itinerary previously described. The only difference will be that after finishing our tour of the winery's facilities, we'll head to a room where we'll enjoy a succulent lunch of three courses, accompanied by 5 wines.

The lunch menu will change weekly depending on the chef's selection and will feature seasonal local products. The dishes will be paired with the following wines: María Zarranz Extra Brut, Petit Grain Muscat, Fusión Roble, Tannat Open Cellar, and Grand Cuvée Brut Rosé. Of course, we'll also enjoy a detailed tasting to learn even more about Varela Zarranz wines and their exquisite taste.

Operating days: this option operates from Wednesday to Sunday. Pickup at Montevideo will take place at 12:30 pm.
