Embark on an adventure to explore the stunning landscapes of Cape Verde through this engaging hiking experience in the Calabaceira Valley. The journey also includes a visit to Cidade Velha, the historical heart of Ribeira Grande.

Hiking Overview

At the designated time, you will be collected from your accommodation in Praia, and we will commence our trek through one of Cape Verde's most significant cities.

Our first destination will be the Calabaceira Valley, where the hiking adventure begins. Ascending to impressive altitudes, you will be treated to some of the most breathtaking vistas in Cape Verde. The trails meander through spectacular scenery characterized by volcanic craters and unique plant and wildlife.

As we journey through the Calabaceira Valley, you will have the chance to witness the legendary giant baobab, which was noted by Charles Darwin during his explorations of Santiago Island. Additionally, we will encounter local farmers who will share insights into the cultivation of prevalent crops such as sugar, bananas, mangoes, and coconuts.

Following the hike, we will proceed to Cidade Velha, recognized as the historical center of Ribeira Grande. This area, classified as a World Heritage Site, marks the first European colonial settlement located in the tropics. Highlights will include visits to its remarkable churches, Picota Square, and the iconic Royal Fort of San Felipe.

At the end of this enriching experience, we will return you to your hotel in Praia, approximately four hours after our departure.
