Explore the Jesuit Church of Santiago Apostle and its haunting catacombs adorned with skulls and bones on this trip to Lampa, where you will also discover colonial structures made of pink ashlar stone.

Lampa Day Trip

Starting at 8 am, you will be collected from your hotel in Puno for a scenic 2-hour drive to Lampa.

Upon arrival, we will begin our exploration at the Jesuit Church of Santiago Apostle, a key landmark of the area. Inside, you will encounter numerous Christian artifacts, including a statue of the Virgin of Chiquinquira, a leather-crafted crucified Christ, the silver sculpture of the Immaculate Conception, and the Pietà, a replica of Michelangelo's renowned sculpture found in the Vatican's Basilica of St. Peter.

Next, we will step into the atrium of the church, a rectangular area surrounded by eight towers, before descending into the ancient catacombs. Here, you will have the opportunity to explore this remarkable burial site, including its ossuary, where the meticulously arranged skulls and bones offer a striking sight.

After our visit to the church, we will stroll through the streets of Lampa, appreciating its colonial architecture, such as the Casona Frisancho. We will pass the Municipality of Lampa, an elegant pink ashlar building, and cross the scenic Cal y Canto bridge, known for its beauty until its recent collapse—a testament to the challenges of its construction!

As we begin our return to Puno, we will make a stop at a local market where you can enjoy some free time to shop for souvenirs, making it the perfect opportunity to find a delightful memento from your journey.

We will conclude the day by returning to Puno, dropping you off at your hotel around 3 pm.
