Day Trip to Herculaneum

We'll gather at Piazza Giovanni Battista de Curtis, setting off from Sorrento to explore a remnant of Ancient Rome. Get ready to unveil the ruins of Herculaneum!

Our adventure begins as we board a train that transports us straight to this Roman settlement, which suffered devastation from the Vesuvius eruption in 79 AD. Once we arrive, a guided tour of the Herculaneum archaeological site, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will await us.

Throughout the tour, we’ll delve into the history of this ancient city and discover the everyday lives of its residents—frozen in time at the moment of catastrophe. This town, encapsulated in history, showcases mosaics, taverns, landscapes, houses, and even the remains of skeletons.

Moreover, Herculaneum boasts an array of vividly colored frescoes adorning the walls of exceptionally well-preserved buildings. Highlights include visits to the House of Neptune and Amphitrite, the House of the Deer, and the Headquarters of the Augustal Priests.

After exploring Herculaneum, we’ll make our way back to the train station to return to Sorrento, wrapping up this 4-hour experience.
