Lake Mývatn Day Trip
At the scheduled time, our minibus will pick you up from your accommodation in Akureyri to embark on the journey towards Lake Mývatn. While traveling to our destination, we will glide along Eyjafjördur, the longest fjord in Iceland. The enchanting vistas along this route are sure to captivate you.
Our first stop is the iconic Goðafoss waterfall, rich in historical significance. It was here in 999 AD that a pivotal moment in Icelandic history occurred, when pagan idols and artifacts from the ancient Viking faith were cast into the waters.
Continuing our journey, we will arrive in the Lake Mývatn area, characterized by its stunning volcanic scenery. We will traverse the wetlands and witness the mouth of the Laxa River, which flows into the lake. Bird enthusiasts will find delight in spotting a diverse array of bird species during this experience.
Next, we’ll explore the trails of Dimmuborgir. Walking through these ancient lava fields, created thousands of years ago, allows you to admire the breathtaking array of rock formations. Throughout the day, we will delve deeper into the region, visiting enchanting sites like Hverarönd and the exquisite Grjótagjá Cave, one of Iceland's most stunning caverns.
Our adventure will conclude approximately 5 hours after the activity commences, sending you on your way with unforgettable memories of this remarkable journey.
