Tour Details

At the designated time, we'll meet at the Plaza de la Aduana, an ideal location to immerse yourself in the local tradition and culture of Cartagena. This spot is the largest square in the historic center and served as the former administrative center of the colonial port. Here, you'll learn about how the import and export of goods from across America, particularly coffee and tobacco, were handled.

Before we leave the Plaza de la Aduana, we will enter a café to enjoy a Colombian coffee, allowing you to appreciate its distinctive aroma and flavor. Our walk will continue towards the Torre del Reloj and the Plaza de los Coches, where you'll gain insights into how trade operated during the Colonial era.

We will then visit the Plaza de la Proclamación, a site of significant political events that shaped the country. Following that, we will explore the Calle Estanco del Tabaco to understand the historic importance of tobacco in the Caribbean. It’s interesting to note that during Colonial times, a official tobacco monopoly was enforced by the Spanish Crown.

After sharing various anecdotes about Cartagena's relationship with tobacco, we will stop at the Plaza de Santo Domingo, a lively square that has attracted merchants, artisans, and travelers for centuries.

To conclude, we will visit another café to enjoy our final coffee and, if you wish, sample some Caribbean tobacco. Our journey will wrap up with farewells at the Plaza Santo Domingo after approximately 2.5 hours.
