Day Trip to El Oro de Hidalgo & Tlalpujahua de Rayón
Your adventure begins with a pickup from your Morelia hotel at 7 am, as we set off towards the enchanting Magic Town of El Oro de Hidalgo.
Upon arrival, a walking tour will guide you through the historic center, where you'll marvel at the impressive stately architecture, reflecting the wealth generated during the gold mining boom. Key highlights include the striking neoclassical Parish Church of Santa María de Guadalupe and the elegant Juárez Theatre, a fine example of art nouveau design.
Your exploration continues with a visit to an old mine shaft, providing insights into the mining techniques employed in the past as well as the associated hazards. Before leaving, you will visit a century-old draught and have the opportunity to engage in stone carving at a stonemasonry workshop. Additionally, a glassblowing workshop awaits, where you can observe the intricate process of crafting unique glass pieces.
A one-hour break follows, allowing you to enjoy lunch at your leisure before we proceed to the Magic Town of Tlalpujahua de Rayón. This picturesque community boasts charming cobblestone streets and colonial architecture, all with a rich mining history waiting to be uncovered during our guided tour.
Highlights of Tlalpujahua include the magnificent 17th-century Franciscan convent, the venerable temple of Santiago Puxtla, and the notable Church of El Carmen. Explore why this town is often referred to as the town of eternal Christmas. After the walking tour, take some time to shop for delightful souvenirs in one of the local Christmas shops.
Your day concludes as we return to Morelia, with an estimated arrival back at your hotel by 8:30 pm.
