Private Tour to Paricutín Volcano & Angahuan
Description
Discover the remnants of a village engulfed by volcanic ash while immersing yourself in the Purepecha heritage during this exclusive tour to Paricutín Volcano and Angahuan starting from Morelia.
Exclusive Tour to Paricutín Volcano & Angahuan
Your journey begins as we pick you up from your Morelia hotel at 9 am, setting off on our private adventure to witness the youngest volcano on the planet. Rising dramatically from the agricultural land in 1943, the Paricutín Volcano has a remarkable story waiting to be explored!
After a scenic three and a half hour drive, we will arrive at the mountain's base within the protected area of Pico de Tancítaro National Park. Here, you have the choice to explore a two-kilometre trail either on foot or horseback.
As we navigate around this magnificent volcano, soaring to 2800 meters, we’ll also approach the remnants of the village of San Juan Paricutín, swallowed by lava during an eruption. Keep an eye out for the remains of the church of San Juan Parangaricutiro!
Afterward, we'll hop back in the vehicle for a drive to Angahuan, a vibrant Purepecha community where you'll delve into the local language and traditions. One of the highlights is the Church of Santiago Apostle, renowned for its Mudéjar-style facade, which uniquely combines elements of Christian and Islamic architectural influences – an extraordinary sight to behold!
Your experience will culminate with a traditional lunch, featuring exquisite local dishes such as churipo (a spicy soup), corundas (traditional tamale-like treats), and gordias de queso (cheese-stuffed tortillas). Finally, we’ll make our way back to Morelia, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel around 6 pm.
