Tour Details
The journey begins at the Nagoya station, where we will embark on our guided visit to the castle, a significant landmark representing the city and an exemplary piece of Japanese feudal architecture.
As we stand before this remarkable fortress, you will learn about its storied past. Did you know that the Nagoya Castle was commissioned at the start of the 17th century by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate? It also served a pivotal role in uniting Japan. You will delve deeper into its history during this tour!
Together with your guide, we will navigate the castle grounds, observing its formidable stone walls and the reconstructed interiors. This will be an opportunity to uncover the strategic layout, the construction techniques of the Edo period, and the samurai who once inhabited these halls.
Within the Honmaru Palace, you will appreciate the stunning sliding doors adorned with gold leaf and the intricately painted murals that showcase the magnificence of the Japanese warrior class. A stroll through the tranquil gardens surrounding the castle will reveal a variety of blossoms, expansive moats, and view points over the landscape.
Following our castle visit, we will proceed to Kinshachi Yokocho, a bustling district known for its culinary delights, offering you a taste of Nagoya's finest dishes.
You will accompany the guide as we explore the two distinct areas of Kinshachi Yokocho. The Yoshinao Zone, inspired by the samurai and the elegance of the Edo era, is famed for traditional offerings such as miso katsu (pork cutlet in red miso sauce), kishimen (flat udon noodles), and hitsumabushi (grilled eel served over rice).
Meanwhile, the Muneharu Zone, which reflects the modern face of Nagoya, features trendy cafés and informal dining spots perfect for enjoying desserts and light bites.
After a delightful 2.5-hour exploration of this vibrant part of the city, we will conclude our tour, leaving you free to continue discovering Nagoya at your leisure.
