Explore the vibrant and alternative heart of Warsaw as you embark on this free tour through the enchanting district of Praga. It's an ideal way to immerse yourself in Polish culture without any cost involved!
Free Tour of the Praga District
We will gather at the designated time in front of St. Florian's Cathedral, marking the beginning of our exploration of Warsaw's Praga district.
Our first stop will be the Monument to a Street Band, a unique sculptural tribute featuring a violinist, guitarist, accordionist, a percussionist, and a banjo player. Together, we will uncover the stories behind this captivating installation tied to the interwar era.
Following this, we’ll stroll into what is famously known as the Bermuda Triangle of Warsaw. Curious about its name? We'll unravel the intriguing tales that surround this spot during our walk! Then, we will have the chance to explore the courtyards of several Praga buildings, where small religious altars can be found. These niches were established during the Second World War, serving as sacred spaces for worship and community gatherings.
Continuing our journey, we'll arrive at the Bazar Ró?yckiego, the oldest market in Warsaw, which has been operating since 1882. Its vibrant stalls offer a diverse array of products ranging from wedding attire to the local delicacy, pyzy. An interesting tidbit: Adam Wa?yk even mentioned this bazaar in one of his poems!
As our tour nears its end, we’ll make our way to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Mary Magdalene, a stunning structure adorned with five ornate onion-shaped domes, each crowned with Orthodox crosses.
This two-hour journey through the Praga district will conclude at the Dworzec Wile?ski metro station.
