Excursion to Chania, Lake Kournas & Rethymno

Our adventure begins promptly at 7:30 am, when we will convene at the designated meeting location in Malia. From this point, we’ll embark on a journey across western Crete, ready to unveil the island's hidden treasures.

Our first stop will be the charming city of Chania, often referred to as the 'mother of the Cretan cities' by esteemed ancient authors. As we stroll through the Old City, we’ll admire the picturesque harbor, ancient Venetian walls, and historical Turkish mosques. In the modern section of Chania, there will be an opportunity to savor local culinary delights and shop for unique souvenirs at the vibrant local market.

After spending an hour and a half in Chania, we’ll proceed to Lake Kournas, one of Crete’s most cherished natural wonders. Here, we’ll enjoy two hours of leisure to discover this stunning freshwater lake, sourced from subterranean waters of the Lefka Ori mountains. You can take a refreshing dip in the lake and savor a meal at a nearby eatery.

At approximately 4:15 pm, we will reconvene and journey towards our concluding destination, Rethymno. Upon arrival, we’ll wander through the city’s distinctive streets, uncovering iconic sights such as a 16th-century Venetian fortress, the elegant Rimondi Fountain, and the renowned Venetian Loggia.

This enriching tour of western Crete will conclude around 7:30 pm, marking our return to the meeting point in Malia.
