Bogotá War & Peace History Tour
If you're interested in exploring the intricacies of Colombia's conflict through the lens of a knowledgeable local, join us at 10 am, where we will gather in front of the Gold Museum to uncover the challenging phases of Bogotá's history.
Our journey will begin by examining significant locations in the city that were once marked by violence, drugs, and weaponry. The transformation of these areas will be highlighted as we discuss the origins of the armed conflict and the present-day landscape in Colombia.
Throughout this enlightening tour, we'll explore the differing political ideologies of liberalism and conservatism that shape Colombia's history. Additionally, we will pay homage to the pivotal political figures in the country’s past, including Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, a prominent leader of the Liberal Party. His assassination on April 9, 1948, ignited a wave of protests known as the Bogotazo.
As we navigate the thoroughfares of Bogotá, we will examine the contrasts between the Liberal guerrilla factions and paramilitary forces. Key discussions will also cover the landmark peace agreement forged between the FARC and ELN.
After an extensive 3-hour exploration of the motivations behind Colombia’s armed conflict, we will conclude our tour at 1 pm, in front of the Teatro Colón in Bogotá.
