Fort of Saint-André Tickets
Description
This ticket grants access to the Fort of Saint-André, allowing visitors to explore one of the most notable medieval fortifications found in Provence.
Why Visit Fort Saint-André?
Situated in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, at the core of Provence, the Saint-André fortress stands as a pivotal example of 14th-century French military architecture.
Commissioned by King Philip IV of France, known as "the Fair", the fort was designed to strengthen his authority. Its placement on a strategic hillside overlooking the Rhône was a deliberate choice, enhancing its defensive capabilities.
As you walk along the battlements and machicolations of the fort, you will be rewarded with stunning vistas of Avignon, which was historically significant as the city of the Popes.
On clear days, the fort of Saint-André offers remarkable views across the southern French landscape, including the Alpilles and Luberon ranges, along with the famed Mont Ventoux.
