Description

In this activity focused on observing orangutans in Gunung Leuser, participants will be accommodated in traditional wooden huts, providing an immersive experience into the lives of these fascinating primates and their ecosystem. Tourists can opt for either a 3-day or 4-day itinerary.

3 or 4-day Orangutan Observation in Gunung Leuser

Day 1

Our journey begins with a pickup from Medan airport or your hotel, guiding you towards Gunung Leuser National Park, a significant natural habitat that hosts the quaint village of Batu Rongring.

Upon arrival in Batu Rongring around lunchtime, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the Sumatra Dream Class environmental conservation initiative, where insights into their reforestation and recycling efforts will be shared.

The first day concludes with a dinner at a local residence, sampling regional dishes, followed by an overnight stay in Batu Rongring.

Day 2

Early risers will enjoy a substantial breakfast before embarking on a trek in the Gunung Leuser jungle, where encounters with orangutans occur in their natural surroundings. Guided by an expert, you will gain understanding of the interactions of these primates with their environment while observing them from a safe distance.

Your contribution to the local ecosystem is welcomed, as you’ll have the chance to participate in tree planting, directly influencing the reforestation efforts. The day wraps up with dinner at a local family’s home, offering a taste of Karonese cuisine and a glimpse into rural life in Sumatra.

At the end of the day, retreat to the comfort of the wood huts for a restful night.

Day 3

On the final day of the three-day itinerary, following breakfast, there will be continued exploration of the wildlife in Gunung Leuser National Park. Afterward, you’ll have free time for the rest of the day to relax or further explore at your leisure.

To conclude this enriching experience, arrangements will be made for your transfer to Medan airport for your return flight, or to your city hotel.

4-Day Tour

For those seeking an extended adventure, the 4-day tour option offers an additional day dedicated to the orangutan experience in Gunung Leuser.

In the 3-day tour, participants engage in one day of trekking, while the 4-day tour allows for two days of trekking, culminating with an exciting night spent camping in a tent within the national park.

Accommodation and Meals

Both tours include 2 nights in wooden cabins, while the 4-day itinerary features an additional night camping amidst the jungle setting.

During the booking process, you can specify your preference for private or shared bathroom facilities. Meals comprising breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided, however, beverages are not included.

As this setting is quite remote, please note that reliable phone signals and 4G reception are limited. Wifi is unavailable, and electricity will be accessible for approximately 3 hours daily after sunset, allowing for the charging of electronic devices.

Orangutan Observation

The frequency of orangutan sightings can fluctuate based on various factors including weather conditions and the reproductive cycles of different species.

Orangutans are primarily sighted exclusively within the National Park during organized treks. Outside of the park, encounters with other wildlife such as macaque monkeys, Thomas monkeys, monitor lizards, and diverse bird species may occur. However, we're unable to guarantee sightings of orangutans or any other animals.

Important: To observe orangutans, visitors must enter the jungle and traverse untamed paths, which includes navigating both uphill and downhill sections, necessitating a minimum fitness level for participants to fully enjoy the adventure.
