Quito Free Shopping Tour
Description
Join us on this complimentary shopping excursion in Quito, where we will explore the rich history and cultural heritage of the nation, brought to life through its distinctive artisanal goods and local products.
Tour Overview
We will convene at the designated hour in front of the Basílica del Voto Nacional, situated at Parque García Moreno, to embark on our complimentary shopping excursion in Quito.
While gathered, we will share captivating tales about this monumental church, often referred to as the "Church of the End of the World." The plaza also offers a chance to appreciate its striking gargoyles and the entrance to the presidential pantheon.
Our journey will lead us to several artisan shops, providing a glimpse into the craftsmanship of indigenous Ecuadorian artists who skillfully utilize materials like alpaca wool, wood, clay, and precious metals. Subsequently, we'll visit Ñucanchi, a local bar that delves deeper into Ecuador's artistic traditions and expressions. If possible, we will also visit the shop at the Claustro del Carmen Bajo, known for its handcrafted items made by nuns since the colonial era.
Continuing on our free excursion, we will stop at the Archbishop's Palace, located at the heart of the city, to uncover the world of Quito's desserts. Here, we will highlight treats such as chimborazos, oblea wafers, and guava sweets. We will also discuss the history of a former colonial market that once thrived in this square, emphasizing its significance in local culinary traditions.
Our exploration will take us along Calle Ronda, one of the oldest and most artistic streets in the historic district. This path will lead us to shops featuring unique items, including a spinning top factory and a handmade tinsmith's workshop, allowing us to discover what makes Ecuadorian coffee unique. We will make a stop at a shop dedicated to the famous toquilla straw hats, learning about their fascinating history and their intriguing link to Panama.
We will conclude our three-hour journey at San Francisco square, where a shop specializing in exquisite chocolate awaits. Here, you will have the chance to savor a tasting session and purchase some local treats, allowing you to take a piece of Ecuador home with you.
