Pacaya Volcano Hike

In this experience, participants will ascend the Pacaya volcano and traverse its volcanic cone, all the while observing the spectacular lava rivers. A highlight of the journey will be the opportunity to toast marshmallows!

Description

At the scheduled time, we will collect you from your hotel in Antigua Guatemala, from where we will embark on a bus journey to the municipality of San Vicente Pacaya, situated in Escuintla.

Following a drive of approximately one hour and fifteen minutes, we will reach this locality, marking the point where our hike up the Pacaya Volcano commences. Over an expedition lasting 1.5 hours, you will gain insights into the history of this active volcanic cone, which has experienced at least 23 eruptions since the arrival of the Spanish. Participants can also relish breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Due to its persistent volcanic activity, you will have the chance to observe the lava firsthand, a truly awe-inspiring experience. Additionally, we will take a break during our trek to enjoy toasting marshmallows by the magma flows. It's bound to be an enjoyable time!

After exploring the summit of the Pacaya volcano, we will spend about an hour retracing our steps back to the village, where we will board the bus once again for our return journey to Antigua Guatemala. You can expect to be dropped off at the same location where we picked you up, roughly 8 hours after the excursion begins.
