Athens Night Tour
Description
Dive into the captivating ambiance of Athens and explore its renowned landmarks in a distinctive manner on this evening city tour.
Tour Overview
At the scheduled hour, we will gather in front of the Books Plus store, situated across from the National Library of Greece, to commence this enlightening nighttime exploration of the city.
Our adventure begins as we appreciate the stunning neoclassical façade of the library, followed by a visit to the Academy of Athens, an architectural treasure of the city. Illuminated by the night lighting, the Ionic columns and the figures of Plato and Socrates evoke the magnificence of Ancient Greece.
Just a short walk away, the grand Greek Parliament awaits. Here, you will witness the changing of the guard by the Evzones, the famed presidential guards adorned in their signature uniforms. This moment allows for a glimpse into the political heart of Athens at Syntagma Square, always vibrant and animated.
Continuing our journey, we will stroll down Ermou, Athens' most beloved shopping avenue, leading us to a hidden gem nestled among contemporary structures: the Byzantine church of Agia Dynami. This enduring symbol has withstood the trials of time for centuries, showcasing remarkable resilience.
Our exploration will proceed to the magnificent Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, the city's largest Orthodox edifice. Its grand design and captivating frescoes narrate the spiritual history of Greece.
Next, we will wander through the charming Anafiótika neighbourhood, reminiscent of the Greek islands, nestled in the core of Athens. Surrounded by inviting taverns and pristine white walls, we will embrace the enchantment of this unique locale.
We will then encounter the striking ruins of the Roman Agora and the intriguing Tower of the Winds, a historic marble structure that once functioned as a sundial. Nearby, you may explore Hadrian's library, a remnant of the Roman emperor's legacy, still echoing the spirit of its celebrated era. Naturally, a stop at the Greek Agora is essential, the nucleus of Athenian social life, where great thinkers like Socrates and Plato engaged in monumental discussions that influenced Western thought.
Ultimately, concluding our 2-hour journey at Monastiraki Square, where ancient history interweaves with contemporary Athens. This lively square, surrounded by shops, cafés, and market stalls, captures the essence of the city, harmonizing the hustle of the flea market with the stunning backdrop of the illuminated Acropolis.
