Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet in Palace Square to begin a private tour of Avignon. The town is known for serving as the seat of the papacy in the 14th century and is nicknamed “the City of Popes.” It is also famous for the 12th-century Saint-Bénézet Bridge, inspired by the French children's song “Sur le pont d'Avignon.”
During this tour, we'll explore the town's history, starting from the Neolithic Age and covering its influence during the Holy Roman Empire and events of the French Revolution.
We will visit the Notre-Dame-des-Doms Cathedral, a Romanesque structure from the 12th century, and the Place de l'Horloge, leading to the Grand Opera of Avignon and City Hall. We will also see the Église des Célestins and the Musée Angladon, home to a private art collection. Avignon hosts the Festival d'Avignon, a celebration of the performing arts. The tour will conclude as we stroll through the historic center, lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes.
