Yumuri Canyon Day Trip

Day Trip Overview

Your adventure begins with a pickup from your Baracoa hotel at the scheduled time, where you will travel in an off-road vehicle into the enchanting natural reserve of the Yumurí River.

As we traverse the route, you will delve into the tropical forest and lush greenery that characterizes this area, passing through thriving fields of coffee, taro, sweet potatoes, and yams. Expect to uncover intriguing stories about the local culture and methods for sustainable farming practices.

Upon arrival at Yumurí, prepare for a scenic boat ride that offers splendid views of the towering canyon walls rising to 200 meters (656 feet) on both sides of the river until it reaches its confluence with the Atlantic Ocean. Have you ever wondered about the significance of the river’s name, Yumurí? Discover the answer during this expedition!

We will navigate across the river, making our way through its sole navigable stretch, measuring just 300 meters (984 feet). The highlight of the journey includes an opportunity to take a refreshing swim in one of the natural pools that dot the riverbanks.

Next, we head towards the Punta de Maisí, the most eastern point of Cuba. Here, you will encounter the famous lighthouse, affectionately known as "La Concha" by the locals. Did you know that on exceptionally clear days, one can sometimes spot Haiti from its peak?

Post exploration at Maisí, indulge in a traditional Cuban meal at the Faro de Maisí hotel.
