Tour Overview

We will commence our journey at the designated time at the Bastogne Tourist Office, where an introductory briefing on the Battle of the Bulge will take place. This major conflict unfolded in southern Belgium from December 16, 1944, to January 25, 1945, marking a pivotal moment in the war.

Situated at Place McAuliffe, the Tourist Office features an M3 Sherman tank that was utilized during the battle. After taking in the sight of this iconic military vehicle, we will proceed to the Bastogne War Museum.

Inside the museum, you will encounter a variety of artifacts including period uniforms, military vehicles, and weaponry that played significant roles in the Battle of the Bulge. Following our guided tour of the most prominent exhibits, you will have an hour of downtime to enjoy lunch at the Bistrot de la Paix, the on-site restaurant of the museum.

Post-lunch, our next destination is the Mardasson Memorial. This uniquely designed star-shaped monument, situated adjacent to the museum, honors the bravery and sacrifice of American soldiers who perished during the Battle of the Bulge.

Subsequently, we will explore Jacques Forest, a significant site where the renowned Easy Company of the US 101st Airborne Division engaged in combat. Their story was famously portrayed in the critically acclaimed series Band of Brothers by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. After delving into their experiences, we will follow the path through the Foy trenches and the nearby castles of Recogne and Rolley, both of which were crucial during the conflict.

Next, we will pay our respects at the memorial dedicated to the Native American soldiers who lost their lives during this fierce battle. Our final stop will bring us to the Bastogne War Rooms, where we will explore the context behind General McAuliffe’s historical response of "Nuts" during the siege.

This enriching 8-hour experience will conclude as we return you to our original meeting point.
