Red Belgrade Communist Tour
Description
Embark on a walking tour that delves into one of the most controversial periods in Serbian history, tracing the timeline from World War II to the present. As we explore the vibrant streets of Belgrade, you will encounter urban legends and conspiracy theories surrounding the rise and fall of Communist Yugoslavia.
Red Belgrade Communist Tour
We will convene at Nikola Paši? Square at the scheduled time, where our tour will commence with a brief introduction. Our journey begins at Republic Square, the birth ground of Communist Yugoslavia, where Josip Broz Tito, affectionately known as "Tito", delivered his pivotal speech prior to the establishment of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1945. From there, we will traverse the alleys of Belgrade, absorbing the diverse architectural styles that characterize the city. Expect to see grey structures from the socialist era juxtaposed with historic monuments from the Yugoslavian Kingdom and a range of modern constructions.
Our next destination is Terazije Square, where tales of opulent celebrations, notable figures, and politicians from the Hotel Moskva's storied past will be shared. Continuing to the former square of Marx and Engels, we will admire the impressive Trade Union Hall, notable for the journey of a miner who rose to prominence. Our excursion will also take us to the well-known Pioneer's Park.
To deepen our historical experience, we will board a trolley, once the primary means of transport for Belgradians. This journey will lead us to the prestigious district of Dedinje, home to numerous embassies, beautiful villas, and the Museum of Yugoslavia. Here, Josip Broz Tito stands out as a celebrated figure, regarded as a hero of the nation.
Our final stop will be at the mausoleum, also recognized as the House of Flowers among locals, where Tito's remains rest. This visit will serve as an opportunity to reflect on his significant legacy and the experiences of Serbians during the last days of the Yugoslav Republic.
After four hours of captivating historical exploration and discovery in the heart of Serbia, we will conclude our tour and bid farewell.
