Day Trip to the Shuar Indigenous Community
Description
Experience an enriching day trip from Bucay that takes you to the Shuar indigenous community and the captivating waterfalls of La Esperanza Forest.
Tour Options
Upon securing your booking, you can choose between two distinct itineraries, both commencing at the Bucay Adventures office, utilizing minibus transport and escorted by an English-speaking guide. Each itinerary promises a unique adventure:
Visit to the Shuar Indigenous Community (2.5 hours)
Your journey sets off at the scheduled time as we say goodbye to Bucay and head towards the Shuar indigenous community, situated in the Ecuadorian Amazon close to Guayaquil.
Upon arrival, you will be greeted warmly as community members showcase a traditional dance. Following this, we'll explore their village, gaining insights into their rich cultural heritage. This includes learning about their agricultural methods, the daily-use items they create, and the artistry involved in handmade crafts.
During our visit, we'll observe ancestral rituals that continue to be part of the Shuar lifestyle. For a more immersive experience, enjoy authentic drinks and participate in face painting, diving deeper into the essence of their community.
After spending two and a half hours engaging with the Shuar culture, we will return to Bucay, successfully concluding the activity.
- Schedule: This tour starts at 3 pm.
Visit to the Bucay Waterfalls + Shuar Indigenous Community (7 hours)
This option is perfect for those desiring a more comprehensive experience. Before visiting the Shuar community, we'll explore the magnificent La Esperanza Protected Forest, a hidden gem teeming with stunning waterfalls.
Our adventure begins at a sugar cane mill, where you can learn about the time-honored techniques of producing sugar cane juice. Afterward, we’ll embark on a forest hike to seek out its magnificent waterfalls, including La Chorrera del Amor, which cascades down 30 meters (100 feet), and Isabela, recognized as Bucay's largest waterfall.
You’ll have free time at each waterfall to unwind, take in the beautiful vistas, and enjoy a refreshing swim. To replenish your energy after hiking, a delightful picnic lunch will be served in the scenic ambiance of the Bucay waterfalls.
In the afternoon, we will proceed to the Shuar indigenous community, participating in similar activities as described in the previous option.
After a full day of exploration and cultural immersion, we’ll return to our original meeting point, completing a wonderful seven-hour excursion.
