Buenos Aires Domes Tour
The Buenos Aires of the 19th and 20th centuries was very prolific in monumental buildings crowned by domes, but which are the most beautiful? To find out, we'll meet at 9 am next to the pyramid of Plaza de Mayo.
First, we'll take a walk to the Bencich Building to admire its two huge five-story domes designed in 1927 by French architect Eduardo Le Monnier. From the same intersection, we'll observe the exterior architecture of the First National Bank of Boston, known as Banco de Boston, located on the popular 'corner of the five domes'.
We'll then continue to the neighborhood of San Telmo, where we'll pass by the Casal de Catalunya, a neo-Gothic-Modernist building. Next, we'll visit the Otto Wulff Building, featuring domes characteristic of a Central European Art Nouveau variant called Jugendstil.
After learning about these buildings' history, we'll head to Avenida de Mayo to view the façades and domes of Hotel Chile and Palacio Barolo. Nearby is the National Congress of Argentina, where we'll pause to appreciate its massive 80-meter high dome.
Continuing to Avenida Rivadavia, we'll check out two examples of the Art Nouveau style: the Confitería del Molino building and Casa de los Lirios.
Then, at 11 am, we'll conclude the tour next to the 'No Hay Sueños Imposibles' building. We'll share details about this building's curious name before finishing the tour!
