Description
By participating in this Sichuan Opera performance, you will delve into the fascinating world of mask-changing, an exquisite aspect of this time-honored art form, located within the historic 1941 Tea House Theatre in Chongqing.
Sichuan Opera at the 1941 Tea House
Upon entering the 1941 Tea House Theatre, you will be enveloped in an ambiance that seamlessly fuses nostalgia with a sense of wonder, transporting you to an era that seems frozen in time.
Seated amidst decorative lamps and classic wooden tables, you will observe performances interwoven with the serving of tea and nuts, a practice designed to keep the tea warm and shield it from the dust of the streets.
The performance will commence with Huan Ren Hao, an exquisite Sichuan opera piece presented by a hua dan, whose graceful movements harmonize with elements of martial arts. The vibrant hues of her costume, adorned in tones of crimson and jade, will create mesmerizing patterns in the air as her expression guides you through an intricate narrative filled with personality. You will find yourself entranced from the outset.
Next, prepare to be amazed by the skillful art of handling the long-spout teapot. The tea master, clad in an indigo robe, will manipulate a 1.2-meter (3.9 feet) teapot with acrobatic flair, performing with a precision that seems almost impossible.
The subsequent act, Quyi Jinqianban, will enthrall you with its rapid tempo, light percussion, and narrative that beautifully incorporates humor, song, and physical acrobatics. For the grand finale, you will witness the enchanting face changing and fire breathing spectacle, featuring masks that transform in an instant, accompanied by vivid flames illuminating the stage.
After an engaging 45 minutes, this captivating performance will conclude, leaving you in awe.
