Southern Sonora 4-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Ciudad Obregón

Upon your arrival at Ciudad Obregón International Airport, we will welcome you and transport you to the historic downtown area for an engaging two-hour exploration. Highlights of our city tour will include the Plaza de Armas and a stop by the Alvaro Obregón statue, where you will delve into the life of this significant figure from the Mexican Revolution.

Following the city tour, we will proceed to your hotel, allowing you to relax or dine at your leisure in preparation for the adventures ahead.

Day 2: From Ciudad Obregón to Cócorit and Navojoa

After enjoying a hearty American breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for the historic town of Cócorit, which was established by Jesuit missionaries in 1617. As we stroll through its winding streets, you will admire the vibrant architecture that characterizes this locale.

A visit to the Yo'o Juara butterfly sanctuary awaits us, where you will gain insights into the Cuatro Espejos butterfly species and the center's cultural initiatives with the Yaqui Indigenous Peoples. A traditional lunch at Los Chanates restaurant will follow.

Subsequently, we will travel to Navojoa, where we will enjoy a brief tour of the historical area, culminating at the Parish Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. After this exploration, you will have the evening free to unwind and dine at your hotel.

Day 3: Navojoa to Álamos

The day starts at 8 am with a continental breakfast at the hotel before we embark on an excursion to the Pueblo Mágico of Álamos. A day full of activities is planned, including a hiking journey to Cerro El Tecolote, a midday meal in the town center, a visit to the Museo Costumbrista del Estado de Sonora (Sonora Costumbrismo Museum), and a ride on the local tourist train.

Next, we will enjoy a guided walk through the historical quarter, highlighting the Plaza de Armas, the renowned Callejón del Beso ('Alley of the Kiss'), the Casa de la Moneda, and the impressive Basilica of the Immaculate Conception with its towering 32-meter spire. After the tour, you will have free time until 8 pm to relax at the hotel and select your dinner plans.

Day 4: Departure from Álamos to Ciudad Obregón

After an early breakfast, we will make our way to the María Félix Museum, where you will discover the legacy of one of Mexican cinema's most celebrated actresses. Explore her personal artifacts including shoes, brushes, clothing, and jewelry.

Next, we will head to the Sierra de Álamos–Río Cuchujaqui Flora & Fauna Protection Area for a two-hour hike through the landscape, offering the chance to see ancient trees and, with some luck, local wildlife such as hummingbirds and eagles.

A lunch stop in Navojoa will precede our return trip to Ciudad Obregón International Airport, with an estimated arrival time of 3 pm.
