Embark on a remarkable journey from Coimbra, where you'll traverse the iconic Paiva Walkways, renowned for their breathtaking vistas in Northern Portugal. Are you ready to immerse yourself in this natural wonder?

Paiva Walkways Journey

Our adventure begins at the designated time, when we’ll collect you from your hotel in Coimbra before proceeding to the Areinho river beach, beautifully situated along the banks of the Paiva River.

Upon arrival, we will provide you with essential instructions, preparing us for the upcoming 8-kilometer hike (5 miles), which will take approximately two and a half hours to complete.

As we stroll along the wooden pathways that span the Paiva River, locally referred to as passadiços, you will discover the geological significance of this stunning natural area in Northern Portugal. In addition to the landscapes, we will delve into discussions about the region’s diverse flora and fauna, and explore its archaeological importance.

Midway through the hike, we will pause for a brief rest at Praia do Vau. Here, we’ll share the inspiring story behind the reconstruction of these wooden walkways, a project so inventive that it earned Portugal the Leading Tourism Development Project in Europe award at the World Travel Awards in 2016.

Continuing from Praia do Vau, we’ll carry on our exploration through the Paiva Walkways until we reach the Espiunca river beach. Afterward, we will return to the vehicle and drive back to your hotel in Coimbra, arriving approximately four and a half hours after we commenced this enriching experience.
