Monastery of Yuste Private Tour
Description
Delve into the historical significance of the Yuste Monastery with our personalized tour, exploring the very spaces where Emperor Charles V chose to spend his last days—this hidden treasure is set in the La Vera region of Extremadura.
Tour Highlights
We will meet at the scheduled time near the entrance of the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste, an architectural marvel located amidst the lush forests of La Vera in Cáceres.
This exclusive tour of the Monastery of Yuste features a dedicated guide who will lead you through the final sanctuary of Charles V, who retreated to this Hieronymite establishment in 1556, remaining there until his death two years later.
Discover the spaces frequented by Charles V, which include the Royal Room—built specifically for his use and where he ultimately succumbed to a fever caused by a mosquito bite. Enjoy the stunning vistas the emperor admired from his window, overlooking the orchard and pond.
Wander through the Gothic and Renaissance cloisters, each reflecting periods of introspection and serenity for the monarch, and notice the stark differences between the simplicity of the former and the ornate decoration of the latter.
Examine the monastery church, characterized by a single nave and a polygonal chancel, which is connected to the emperor's private living quarters, resembling the configuration found in Philip II's residence at the El Escorial Monastery.
After a thorough and engaging hour and a half, our exploration of the Monastery of Yuste will come to an end.
Children Under 12
Children under the age of 12 may join the tour free of charge, although they will need to pay the entrance fee for the monastery.
