Pico Island Tour

We'll convene at the pier of Pico Island at the scheduled time to commence our adventure. The tour kicks off by passing through the charming capital, Madalena.

As we venture beyond the city limits, we'll uncover the island's significance in winemaking while navigating the UNESCO World Heritage site known for its vineyard landscapes.

The journey continues along the coastline, leading us to the Pocinho pond, which serves as a haven for numerous migratory bird species. This vineyard-dominated terrain is framed by the volcano that lends its name to the island. Encircling the Montaña do Pico Nature Reserve, the massif here is the tallest peak in both Portugal and the Azores, standing at an impressive 2,351 meters!

After taking in the area’s natural beauty, we’ll pause for a tasting of traditional Pico cheese at the island's oldest cheese factory. Following this, a visit to a local eatery renowned for its fresh fish and regionally sourced meats awaits us.

In the afternoon, we’ll explore the Whalers' Museum, where you can view model ships and artifacts that highlight the significance of whaling to the history of Pico.

As we make our way back to the northern coast, you will have the opportunity to enjoy views of São Jorge. If desired, you can even take a refreshing swim. Our next stop will be in Lajido village, where we will sample the famed Verdelho wine before concluding our tour back in Madalena, approximately 8.5 hours after we began.
