Plovdiv Walking Tour
Description
Embark on a guided exploration of Plovdiv, where you will traverse its historical streets, ancient temples, and Roman remnants—a treasure trove brimming with stories and unexpected delights.
Tour Overview
Our adventure begins at the Eastern Gate of Philippopolis, a significant entry point into the soul of ancient Plovdiv. This location serves as a perfect starting point for our expedition in one of Europe's oldest continuously inhabited cities, rich in over six thousand years of history.
Your first stop will be the magnificent Roman Theater, renowned as one of Bulgaria's most remarkable archaeological sites. Constructed in the 1st century, this stunning amphitheater is still the venue for performances and concerts. As you take in the remarkable views from its stands, we will share insights into the vibrant cultural life of ancient Thrace.
Just a short walk away, we will visit the remnants of the Roman Stadium, which once hosted thrilling athletic events and public spectacles. The ruins interwoven with present-day structures serve as a testament to Plovdiv’s significant role during the Roman era.
Our journey will then lead us into the Kapana district, also known as the Creative Quarter. This vibrant labyrinth of narrow lanes is filled with captivating street art, artisanal workshops, cozy cafes, and eclectic galleries, making it the perfect place to experience the city's modern artistic spirit.
Next, we’ll stroll down Plovdiv's central promenade, which is celebrated as the longest pedestrian street on the continent. As we wander this lively thoroughfare, we’ll discuss the city's remarkable ability to evolve while maintaining its unique character.
We'll then ascend to the historic Old Town, or Revival District, highlighted by the stunning 19th-century Bulgarian houses. Their ornate façades and charming courtyards tell stories of the affluent past—an ideal backdrop for photography!
Our tour will culminate at Raiko Daskalov Street, situated in the core of the historic district, where our exploration comes to a close after around 2 hours.
