Cruise to Estancia Cristina & Upsala Glacier

Prepare for a day immersed in the breathtaking scenery of Patagonia. Following your hotel pickup at the predetermined time, we will embark on a one-hour drive to the dock at Punta Bandera.

Once at the quay, we'll board our vessel to set sail towards Estancia Cristina. During this 2.5-hour journey across the Upsala Channel, you'll get closer to the awe-inspiring glacier. Upon arriving at Estancia Cristina, our adventure will continue with a moderately challenging hike through the picturesque surroundings.

Your guide will lead the way as we traverse a Patagonian forest, allowing you to observe various Antarctic beech trees and an array of endemic bird species. Our path ascends to a viewpoint, offering spectacular views over Lake Argentino.

Midway through our excursion, we’ll pause for a meal at a local eatery, where you will enjoy a delicious lunch featuring two empanadas, a choice of main course (lamb casserole or pasta with pesto), followed by flan for dessert, along with either a glass of wine or a soft drink, and coffee or tea. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also provided.

Continuing our ascent, we aim to reach the magnificent Perros waterfall, where the views of the Caterina River valley will leave you in awe. Afterward, we will explore the estancia's museum for insights into the rural lifestyle of the region. Our visit will also include stops at the chapel, water mill, and other notable sites.

To conclude our day, we will take a boat back to the port at Punta Bandera, and a minibus will be ready to transport us back to El Calafate. Our journey together will last approximately 12.5 hours.

Travel to Estancia Cristina Independently

If you prefer to make your own way to Estancia Cristina, you can opt to book without transfers. Should you choose this option, please meet your guide at the pier on the Estancia, located at Punta Bandera, by 8:15 am. For the return, the boat will transport you back to the dock by 7 pm.

Option With Transfers

On the day of the activity, the local provider will pick you up from your hotels from 7:30 am onwards. Please be ready in reception 10 minutes in advance.

If you're staying in other more remote areas, at the indicated time we'll pick you up from: Ryan's Travel office, local 3, located at number 31 on Calle 7 de Diciembre (next to the branch of the Bank of the Argentine Nation). Please be on time.

Book without Transfers

If you've booked without hotel pickup, meet your guide at the quay at the Estancia, located at Punta Bandera, at 8:15 am. The car journey from El Calafate is approximately 40 minutes.

On the return journey, the boat will drop you back off at the pier at 7 pm.
