Tour Overview

Our adventure will commence at the scheduled time in front of the Tourist Information Office at the Old Port, marking the beginning of this immersive walking tour of medieval Genoa. This experience promises to transport us back in time to uncover the intriguing history of the city.

The journey will initiate near the Embriaci Tower, one of the rare medieval towers that stand tall to this day, symbolizing the legacy of the ancient Genovese nobility. From this point, we will delve into Campopisano, an area rich with a lesser-known yet captivating story from the city’s past, along with a visit to the Church of Santa Maria di Castello, a striking example of the fusion of medieval architecture and spiritual beliefs.

Our exploration will then lead us to the Church of San Donato, a small yet remarkable Romanesque treasure nestled among the carruggi, before we proceed to the Porta Soprana, an impressive representation of the medieval fortifications that once secured the city.

Finally, we will make our way to the Sant'Agostino Museum, where we will appreciate its triangular cloister, the evocative church adjacent to it, and the remnants of the mausoleum of Margaret of Brabant, a stunning work by the renowned sculptor Giovanni Pisano.
