Tour Overview

At the scheduled time, we will gather at Çerçiz Topulli Square. Once everyone has arrived, we will commence our captivating exploration of Gjirokastër. Are you prepared to delve into one of southern Albania's most enchanting locales?

As we gather, we will discuss the legendary figure after whom this square is named, Çerçiz Topulli, a local hero celebrated for his contributions, while we also take in the monument erected in his honor.

Following this, we will proceed to the vibrant Bazaar, a bustling market that offers a glimpse into local culture through its diverse stalls. Our next stop will be the exterior of the Skënduli House, a remarkable example of architecture from the Ottoman period.

Our journey will then take us to the Ethnographic Museum, the childhood residence of Enver Halil Hoxha, who served as Albania’s Prime Minister. Here, visitors can explore a vast array of artifacts and household items that showcase life in Albania during the 19th century.

Continuing along the cobbled streets of Gjirokastër, we will arrive at the home of Ismail Kadare, the birthplace of the nation's most distinguished author, renowned winner of the International Booker Prize and the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature.

As we return to our starting point, we will pause in front of the Cold War tunnel, a concealed underground bunker from the communist period. Our tour will conclude here after an engaging 2-hour journey through history.
