Tour of Vezzeno Gorge

We will gather at the designated time at the entrance to Gropparello Castle, the initial point of a scenic trail that will guide us towards the Vezzeno Gorge, a remarkable canyon carved by its namesake stream.

Our exploration will take us along historic patrol routes that extend from the castle's imposing walls to the base of the cliff, where the gentle flow of the Vezzeno stream can be observed. Throughout our walk, the guide will share insights into the distinct features of this extraordinary region, distinguished by the somber presence of ophiolite, which lends a dramatic quality to the landscape.

Within this verdant area, we will visit the Museo della Rosa Nascente, a dedicated space that features a collection of 17 rose gardens. During our time in this rose sanctuary, we will delve into the enchanting connections between the diverse species representing the area’s rich flora, including white privets, maritime pines, and imperial maples.

Next, we'll head to the Limonaia, where the Sala dei Fossili (Fossil Room) is located. This exhibit displays fossilized remnants of both animal and plant life unearthed from the vicinity, originating from the Upper Jurassic period!

After an inspiring hour and a half immersed in nature, we bid farewell to our guide and wrap up this enriching Vezzeno Gorge tour.
