Piedra del Peñol Climbing

This rock climbing adventure at Piedra del Peñol invites you to tackle up to five vertical routes on one of Colombia's most remarkable monoliths. Experience the thrill of defying gravity in the stunning region of Antioquia!

Activity Details

We will gather at Estadero El Mono, situated 1,640 ft (500 m) from the entrance of the Piedra del Peñol, also known as the Rock of Guatapé. This massive rock rises 721 ft (220 m) above the Guatapé Dam, dominating the landscape.

Upon arrival, you will receive the necessary technical equipment for the climb, which includes a harness, helmet, rope, carabiners, chalk, and specialized climbing shoes. Are you prepared to ascend one of Colombia’s iconic rock formations?

Following this, we will embark on a brief hike to reach the climbing base, starting with beginner routes. This introductory phase serves as a warm-up, allowing the instructor to assess your skills and tailor the experience to your abilities. From the very start, the Piedra del Peñol will present challenges as you seek footholds, maintain your balance, and rely on your grip. Each section you complete will be a celebration of your progress!

The climb will include five vertical routes across various sections of the monolith, reaching heights of up to 262 ft (80 m). These routes are carefully chosen to provide a mix of technical challenges and sensations with each ascent, all leading to the same breathtaking payoff: a panoramic view of the Guatapé Dam, lush green valleys of Antioquia, and the fulfillment of achieving a new height.

After conquering the climbing routes, we will make our way back to the meeting point, wrapping up this exciting adventure after a total of 4 hours.
